Lebanon cannot be allowed to become another Gaza: Slovak Foreign Minister
Slovak Foreign Minister Jura Blanner has said that Lebanon cannot be allowed to become another Gaza if tensions in the Middle East are not to escalate. At the same time, he called on Israel to abide by the agreement reached between the United States and Iran.
Blanner made the remarks at a joint press conference with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Álvarez in the Slovak capital Bratislava on Monday (June 29). The Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported this information, citing Slovak news agency TASR.
Blanner said, “We do not want Lebanon to become another part of Gaza. Therefore, the agreements reached between the United States and Iran must also be respected by Israel.” He said that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, especially the tensions surrounding the Gaza Strip and Iran, can be resolved not with military force, but through diplomatic initiatives.
The Slovak Foreign Minister said that Slovakia and Spain have similar positions on international conflicts. Both countries are in favor of dialogue, diplomatic initiatives and resolving the crisis in accordance with international law. He said that keeping the path of negotiations open to resolving the conflict and respecting international agreements by all parties is of great importance in the current situation. Blanner’s comments come at a time when tensions between Israel and Hezbollah on the Lebanese border continue, as well as the war in Gaza. At the same time, diplomatic efforts are underway to implement a possible agreement between the United States and Iran. In such a context, various European countries are emphasizing a peaceful solution, expressing fears of a new conflict in the Middle East.
