Israel claims to have destroyed a 200-meter-long Hezbollah tunnel
The Israeli army has destroyed a huge underground tunnel built by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said. According to the AFP news agency, in a joint statement, the Israeli prime minister and defense minister said that the tunnel was more than 200 meters long and was built more than 25 meters underground. It contained hundreds of weapons.
The statement also claimed that it also contained multiple missile launch sites intended to attack Israel and its civilians. The operation came just two days after Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement in Washington, brokered by the United States, aimed at moving forward on the path to peace. The two countries have been officially at war for decades.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said in a statement that it has the right to defend its country and people after Israel carried out multiple attacks on various areas in southern Lebanon in violation of the ceasefire agreement on Sunday (June 28).
Hezbollah claimed that Israeli warplanes attacked residential buildings in the southern town of Nabatiyah and the neighboring town of Mefadun. In addition, Israeli drones attacked open areas in the town of Fraun and the Bint Jbeil district. At the same time, explosions targeted residential buildings in the areas of Taybeh and Haddatha.
Hezbollah said in a statement, “We are closely monitoring these violations of the ceasefire agreement. We have the right to defend our homeland and people.”
