Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie has said that whether it is Teesta Master Plan or by any other name, we will implement it. He said, like the Padma Barrage, we will complete the study of Teesta Master Plan this fiscal year and take initiatives to implement it. He said these things in the session of the National Parliament yesterday, Sunday (June 28).
The Water Resources Minister said, people living on the banks of Teesta are actually fighting with nature. Not only Teesta, but people living in the country’s 4,000-kilometer river erosion area including Padma, Meghna, Jamuna and Brahmaputra are living in inhuman conditions. He said, they do not understand or do not see this budget, but they want to live.
He said, during his recent visit to China, the Teesta project was discussed seriously in a meeting led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with the Chinese President, Prime Ministers and concerned ministers. China has agreed to provide necessary cooperation in the development of river management in Bangladesh and technical assistance in the study of the Teesta project.
The Water Resources Minister said that the Chinese government has assured that whatever is needed for the overall river management of Bangladesh, the Chinese government will stand by Tarique Rahman, the Chinese government will stand by the people of Bangladesh.
He also said that a team of domestic and foreign experts has already started the study of the Teesta project. After ensuring the necessary budget allocation, initiatives will be taken to complete this feasibility study as soon as possible and the Teesta master plan like the visible Padma Barrage will be implemented in the current fiscal year.
