The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have launched a new military operation in the UN-declared special buffer zone on the southern border of Syria. Tel Aviv claims that several armed members were killed in this special operation.
This information was confirmed in a post on the Israeli military’s ‘Verified X’ handle on Sunday (June 28). The IDF said that the military operation was carried out based on specific intelligence information inside the special security zone in southern Syria. However, Israel did not clarify which organization or group the killed armed individuals were affiliated with.
It is worth noting that the IDF took full control of this UN-declared Syrian buffer zone adjacent to the Golan Heights in the situation that arose after the fall of the Syrian Assad government in December 2024. According to recent United Nations data and observations, Israel has illegally occupied approximately 235 square kilometers of territory in Syria in violation of international law, which is creating new border tensions in the Middle East.
