More than 50 injured in clash between two factions of 15 villages in Faridpur
A clash broke out between people from at least 15 villages of two unions over dominance in Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur. More than 50 people, including police, were injured in the incident. The clash broke out at around 8 am today (June 28) in the Pukuria bus stand area of the upazila. Due to the clash, traffic on the Dhaka-Faridpur-Barisal highway was stopped. Passengers suffered greatly.
According to the police, the clash started between supporters of Sultan Matubbar of Manikdaha Union and Siru Mollah of Hamirdi Union over control of the Pukuria bus stand. Police reached the spot and fired tear gas to bring the situation under control. However, it was not possible to stop the clash.
Later, additional police were deployed and the situation came under control. Traffic on the Dhaka-Faridpur-Barisal highway normalized after about 5 hours. Although the clash stopped, the situation in the area is currently tense.
