Plan to bring grocery and cosmetic shops under tax – Finance Minister

The government has a plan to bring grocery and cosmetic shops and other such business sectors under specific tax in the next fiscal year. At the same time, inflation will be brought down to 7.5 percent in the next fiscal year, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said. He made these comments in response to a question raised in the National Parliament on Wednesday (June 24).
The Finance Minister said that 30 banks have taken initiatives to recover money from defaulted loans that have been laundered abroad. The banks have signed confidentiality agreements with 9 international legal institutions. These international institutions will provide necessary assistance to identify the money and assets held abroad in the names of defaulters and bring them back to the country.
He also said that in the first phase, activities have started focusing on the cases related to Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, S Alam, Beximco, Sikder, NASA and Orion Group. The process has started with six cases in the first phase: Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, S Alam, Beximco, Sikder, NASA and Orion Group.
