State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Habibur Rashid has said that the work on the inter-district bus terminal under construction in Kanchpur of Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj, the gateway to Dhaka, will be completed within the next six months. He said that a part of the Dhaka-Sayedabad bus terminal will be shifted to Kanchpur. This will reduce traffic congestion in the capital and improve the quality of passenger service. He said these things after inspecting the under-construction Kanchpur inter-district bus terminal on Wednesday (June 24).
The State Minister for Road Transport said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken various coordinated initiatives to make Dhaka completely traffic-free and modern. The work of shifting some activities to Keraniganj and Kanchpur to reduce pressure on Jatrabari and Sayedabad bus terminals is progressing rapidly. This will reduce traffic congestion in the capital to a large extent. He also said that work is underway to complete the construction of the Kanchpur inter-district bus terminal and fully launch it within the next six months.
Criticizing the previous Awami League government, the State Minister for Road Transport said that at that time, the four bus terminals in the capital were used as depots without any plan. As a result, the common people had to suffer from severe traffic congestion for a long time. The current government has taken various steps to restore order in road management. As part of this, there is also a plan to gradually introduce artificial intelligence (AI) technology-based traffic management at important signal points in the capital. As a result, it will be possible to restore 100% order on the roads.
