Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has claimed that significant progress has been made in ending the Lebanon war. He made this claim in a post in response to a joint statement by Pakistan and Qatar. In the post, Araghchi wrote, “Significant progress has been made in ending the Lebanon war as a result of the tireless mediation of Pakistan and Qatar.”
Araghchi claimed that as part of this, the embargo on the export of oil and petrochemical products has been eased, sanctions have been lifted, some seized assets have been returned, and a major reconstruction and development plan for Iran has been launched.
However, he warned that the first major test of the real effectiveness of this progress will be the ‘Lebanon De-Conflict Cell’. Meanwhile, the country’s armed and political group Hezbollah has strongly opposed the ongoing direct talks between the Lebanese government and the United States. The group claims that such talks would undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty and indirectly protect Israel’s interests.
In an official statement, Hezbollah said that the Lebanese delegation in Washington is being pressured to accept certain conditions, which were mainly created by the United States. These conditions would “lose” Lebanon’s national sovereignty and lead Beirut to a position that would favor the policies of the participants in the talks with Israel.
According to Hezbollah, the fundamental premise of these talks is wrong and will push the country towards a kind of “surrender” instead of protecting Lebanon’s national interests. The statement also said that the participation of this government would be a major obstacle in confronting the enemy’s aggressive plans. At the same time, it would devalue the efforts of resistance fighters on the ground and the great sacrifices of ordinary people.
