Iran Speaker Warns US
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibof has warned the US not to back down from commitments made under a potential memorandum of understanding (MOU) or future agreement. “The commitments that will be made must be kept. No excuses, no conditions, no explanations will be accepted,” he wrote in a post on social media.
Regarding the ongoing talks, Ghalibof also wrote, “There is no alternative to a potential future agreement. As with actions, so with results.” Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi outlined a possible memorandum of understanding with the US. He said the agreement could pave the way for a more comprehensive agreement between the two countries in the future.
Meanwhile, significant progress has been made in talks between the US and Iran. According to various media reports, the two countries are close to reaching an agreement. The Wall Street Journal reported that US Vice President J.D. Vance may visit Geneva to sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran.
The report, citing a US official, said that the easing of US sanctions would depend on Iran meeting certain conditions related to its nuclear program. According to the report, further talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, could be held on technical issues that remain unresolved even after the MoU is signed.
