The US Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a defensive strike against Iran at 5pm local time on Tuesday (June 9). The strike was ordered by the president in response to the downing of a US military Apache helicopter. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the response to the attack would be fierce.
In a post on social media X yesterday, Araghchi said, “The US has tried to test our resolve after failing on the battlefield. Our powerful armed forces will not leave without responding to any attack or threat.” In the same post, he further warned, “If you want to be safe, leave our territory.”
According to relevant sources, the US earlier carried out the first round of strikes targeting Iranian air defense systems and radar installations located around the Strait of Hormuz. Centcom claimed that this was only a response to Iran’s “unprovoked aggression.” According to the United States, the purpose of the attack was to protect their forces and interests.
