A meeting of the army chiefs of Pakistan and Lebanon discussed the regional security situation, defense cooperation and further strengthening of bilateral military ties. The two sides agreed to increase military cooperation in the meeting. Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported this on Tuesday (June 9).
The media wing of the Pakistan Army (ISPR) said that during his visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, Lebanese Army Chief Rodolphe Haykal called on Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The meeting discussed in detail matters of mutual interest, the changing regional security situation and various aspects of enhancing cooperation in the defense sector. At the beginning of the visit, the Lebanese Army Chief was presented with a guard of honor at the GHQ. Later in the meeting, General Asim Munir reiterated the Pakistan Army’s strong commitment to expanding defense cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces.
It is worth noting that this meeting is seen as significant in the context of the ongoing tense situation in the Middle East. Pakistan has recently been trying to mediate in the long-standing conflict between the United States and Iran. At the same time, Islamabad is strengthening diplomatic and military ties with various countries to maintain regional security and stability.
