Driver killed in head-on collision between two trucks in Kushtia
Truck driver Sajeeb (25) was killed in a head-on collision between two trucks in Mirpur, Kushtia. His assistant Jihad (15) and three others were injured in the incident. The accident occurred at around 4 am today (June 9) in the Naymail area of Mirpur upazila on the Kushtia-Iswardi highway.
According to police and local sources, driver Sajeeb and his assistant Jihad were heading towards Rajshahi from Babuganj in Barisal to collect mangoes. On the way, when they reached Naymail area, their truck collided head-on with a truck loaded with stones coming from the opposite direction.
Truck driver Sajeeb was killed on the spot in the collision. His assistant Jihad, the driver and assistant of the other truck were injured. The names and identities of the injured were not immediately known. Locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Kushtia General Hospital.
The front parts of both trucks were twisted in the accident. The highway was closed for a while, but the situation returned to normal after about an hour. Sajeeb’s body has been kept at the Kushtia General Hospital morgue. Abu Obaid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Chowdhury Highway Police Station, confirmed that one person was killed and three others were injured in the accident.
