A truck driver was killed and six injured in separate road accidents in Sadullapur and Gobindaganj upazilas of Gaibandha. The driver was killed when a truck hit him on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Ekabarpur area of ​​Sadullapur upazila at around 3:30 am yesterday (June 6).
On the other hand, six people were injured in a three-way collision on the same highway in Panthapara area of ​​Gobindaganj upazila at around 4:30 am today (June 7). Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Highway Police Station Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the matter this afternoon. The deceased truck driver, Rafiq Mia (40), is the son of the late Wazed member of Kalipain village in Kalihati upazila of Tangail.
Police said that the two trucks were heading towards Rangpur. When they reached Ekabarpur area, the speeding truck coming from behind hit the truck in front. The front of the truck that was hit was crushed and the driver Rafiq Mia died on the spot. OC Mozaffar Hossain said that initially it is believed that the driver fell asleep at the time of the accident. As a result, the truck in front hit the truck from behind.
Meanwhile, six people were injured in a three-way collision between two passenger buses and a freight truck in Panthapara area of ​​Gobindaganj. Police and local sources said that a Rangpur-bound passenger bus of Shah Ali Paribahan collided with a truck carrying animal feed. Shortly after, another Dhaka-bound bus hit the crashed bus. Both sides of the bus were damaged. The other two vehicles were also partially damaged.
After the accident, locals rescued the injured and sent them to the hospital. However, their identities were not immediately known. OC Mozaffar Hossain said that no one was killed in the three-way collision in Panthapara. Although the accident caused a traffic jam for a while, traffic movement returned to normal after quick action was taken.
