A Bailey bridge built over the Kangs River in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh has collapsed along with a sand-laden truck. This has completely cut off the communication system on the regional road, causing public suffering. The accident occurred this Sunday (June 7) morning.
According to local sources, while crossing the Bailey bridge over the Kangs River in the Goatala area in the morning, a sand-laden truck collapsed due to its excess weight and fell into the river. At that time, the helper of the truck was injured but survived.
The collapse of the bridge has stopped traffic on that road and the suffering of the locals has increased further. Locals complain that although the bridge has been in a risky condition for a long time, no effective initiative has been taken to build or repair a new bridge.
Upazila Engineer Indu Bhushan Biswas said that the bridge is very old. It collapsed due to heavy vehicle traffic. The matter has been reported to higher authorities. Dhobaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mosharraf Hossain said that the road is currently closed after the bridge collapsed under the pressure of a sand-laden truck and fell into the river. Higher authorities have been informed after visiting the scene. Mymensingh Zilla Parishad Administrator Syed Imran Saleh Prince said that considering the public suffering, they have spoken to the chief engineer in charge of maintenance. It is hoped that measures will be taken to repair the bridge soon.
