Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akhter, the main accused in the rape and murder case of child Ramisa in Dhaka’s Pallabi, have been presented in court. The charge sheet is likely to be filed in the case today (May 24). The investigation process has almost reached its final stage after receiving DNA, autopsy and viscera reports.
Earlier yesterday, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police handed over the DNA report of 7-year-old child Ramisa, who was raped and murdered, to the investigating officer. On Saturday, the Law Ministry appointed Azizur Rahman Dulu as a special public prosecutor to handle the case. He will fight for the state in the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Md. Asaduzzaman said that if the charge sheet is filed before Eid, the judicial process can be started after the holidays. He said that the government is closely monitoring not only Ramisa’s but also other rape incidents. Incidentally, last Tuesday, the police recovered the body of child Ramisha from a house in Pallavi. This incident created a huge stir across the country. The next day, the police arrested the main accused Sohel Rana from Narayanganj. Sohel Rana gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The magistrate ordered the accused to be sent to jail.
