Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has accused the Strait of Hormuz of being used as a ‘weapon’ in the ongoing war in the Middle East. Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported this information in a report on Tuesday (May 12). He said in a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan that the two countries discussed the US-Israeli war against Iran and the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
The Qatari prime minister said that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is being obstructed and it is being used as a ‘weapon’ in war, which is having a serious economic impact on Gulf countries. He told other Middle Eastern countries that since the war began, Iran has been using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool to put pressure or ‘blackmail’ on Gulf countries. However, Iran cannot be allowed to do this.
