The US media The Wall Street Journal and the Israeli media The Times of Israel have claimed that the UAE has been secretly participating in US and Israeli military operations against Iran. The report said that last April, the Emirates attacked an oil refinery on Iran’s Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf. However, Abu Dhabi has not officially acknowledged the attack.
The Israeli media The Times of Israel reported that the attack occurred as US President Trump announced a ceasefire. Although it is not clear whether the attack took place before or after the ceasefire. At the time, Iran said that an unknown enemy had attacked one of its facilities. Tehran later launched missile and drone attacks targeting the Emirates and Kuwait.
However, the US media outlet The Wall Street Journal also reported that while other Gulf countries have refused to participate directly in the war, Washington views the UAE’s participation positively. The UAE’s Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the matter. Similarly, the Pentagon did not comment. The UAE’s Defense Ministry claimed that Iran launched about 550 ballistic and cruise missiles and more than 2,200 drone attacks on the UAE during the war. It is worth noting that the UAE is the most targeted country by Iran in the Middle East.
