Dhanmondi police face ‘attack’ while arresting robber in Mohammadpur, shoots in self-defense

A team of Dhanmondi police station came under attack while arresting a robber in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area. At that time, a robber named Shakib was shot ‘in self-defense’, police said. The incident took place on Monday (May 11) morning in the alley behind Mohammadpur Town Hall. The injured Shakib is undergoing treatment at Suhrawardy Hospital under police guard.
Dhanmondi Zone Assistant Police Commissioner Saddam Hossain confirmed the matter. He said that the police have arrested two people named Palash and Biplob in this incident. At that time, a Chinese axe, bread, knife and a toy revolver were recovered from them. The Dhanmondi Zone Assistant Police Commissioner said that the robbers attacked the police when the Dhanmondi police station conducted a raid based on secret information based on the investigation of a previous case. In this incident, some policemen were slightly injured and received first aid at the hospital.
Saddam Hossain said that when a raid was conducted in the Town Hall area around 6 am to catch the robbers, the group of robbers tried to attack with Chinese axes and knives. Then a policeman fired four rounds from a pistol in ‘self-defense’. He said, ‘First, two rounds were fired as blank shots. Even then, when they tried to attack, one of the robbers was shot in the leg.’ The Assistant Police Commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone also said that this group had been robbing Dhanmondi and its surrounding areas by attacking with knives and other weapons on bikes.
