BNP leader released after 12 hours of detention

Comilla’s Adarsh ​​Sadar Upazila BNP President Rezaul Qayyum has been released from the police station after 12 hours. He left the Kotwali Model Police Station around 12 midnight on Sunday (May 3). Earlier, members of the Kotwali Model Police Station and the District Detective Branch (DB) arrested Rezaul Qayyum from his house in Shasangachha area of ​​​​Comilla city around 12 noon yesterday.
Meanwhile, after receiving news of Rezaul Qayyum’s detention, his supporters protested by stopping bus services from the Shasangachha bus terminal. They also protested in front of the Kotwali Model Police Station demanding his release. They chanted slogans at the main gate of the police station for several hours. Bus services returned to normal after 4 pm. At night, his followers took up positions at the gate of the police station.
A law enforcement source said that after the fall of the Awami League government, Rezaul Qayyum and some of his followers came to the Shasangachha bus terminal to discuss the issue of extortion from vehicles. Rezaul Qayyum’s house is next to the bus terminal. The police arrested him on the orders of the government’s high-level officials. He was released after 12 long hours after receiving the government’s green signal. Kotwali Model Police Station OC Touhidul Anwar said that he was arrested and brought to the police station for questioning regarding some allegations. Senior officials questioned him. As no allegations were proven against this BNP leader, he was not arrested in any case.
