Internal conflict in Raksu, counter-allegations by VP-GS

Internal conflict among the members of Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Raksu) has come to light. The situation has become heated due to the contradictory statements of the VP and some editors due to the allegations made by GS Salauddin Ammar in the media recently. In that interview, GS Salauddin Ammar alleged that since most of the members of the council are elected from the Shibir panel, the opinions of the representatives of different panels do not get due importance.
He said, since the three of us, including me, are from different panels, our opinions are not naturally accepted. Sometimes the editors organize events with the involvement of the VP and select guests. He also claimed that he did not attend a seminar held recently intentionally. At the same time, he mentioned that he does not involve himself in these activities to maintain transparency.
Earlier, on April 6, lawyer Shishir Monir and barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad participated as guests in a seminar titled ‘Implementation of Referendum Verdict: A Country on the Path of Crisis’ organized by Raksu. The banner of the program had the names of GS Salauddin Ammar and the defeated GS of the Shibir-backed panel (currently a Senate member) Fahim Reza for a short speech. It is learned that Ammar did not participate in the program due to objections to this.
Meanwhile, Vice President Mostakur Rahman Zahid has termed GS’s allegations on social media as ‘baseless and fabricated’. He said that GS could not give any specific example of ignoring the opinions of members outside the Shibir-backed panel; rather, everyone is cooperating in implementing his manifesto.
He also said, I organize the program with the consent of the Vice President and select the guests. This is also baseless and inappropriate. In the presence of the VP-GS, the editors got their agenda passed with the permission of the Raksu president. Later, the editors organized events as they wished, where Ammar and I were invited as guests or discussants. This is how Raksu runs. This is the established rule of Raksu today. However, Ammar said that the selection of events and guests is under the jurisdiction of the VP. It is just a matter of words.
VP Zahid also said that he deliberately did not attend the referendum seminar organized by the Raksu Debate and Literature Department. However, he took leave from me citing personal reasons. One thing is said in the media, another thing in the Raksu session; this cannot be the statement of any Raksu representative.
Regarding the recent activities of GS, VP Zahid said, Salahuddin Ammar has done this before. I did not reply then. I did not feel the need to reply. But he is talking unbridled nonsense day after day, which is like false slander. Stating that the list of Salahuddin Ammar’s negligent acts is very long, he said, “Once you start talking, you will not stop.” If Salauddin Ammar had paid attention to the work of Raksur the way he is spreading false, baseless and fabricated stories in the media, the work of Raksur editors would have become much easier.
Raksur GS’s cultural editor Zahid Hossain Joha has also rejected these allegations of Raksur GS. He said that GS is presenting itself as a victim and blaming others. Whenever he opposes his arbitrariness, he shows it as a position against himself.
He also said that GS is now busy with national politics. So he has to end the campus issue. And the first step for that is to present himself as a negative player. Besides, he himself has been out of the discussion for a long time. It is also very important to come into the discussion. Otherwise, I see no reason for him to make such comments in the media, citing an incident from about a month ago.
In the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RSU) elections held after a long 35 years, the Shibir-supported panel has got the majority. Out of the 23 posts in the election, Shibir-backed panel candidates won 20 posts, including VP-AGS. Independent and Chhatra Dal candidates won the remaining three posts.
