Dubai is taking a major step towards its eco-friendly public transport project. The authority plans to introduce 735 electric buses in the city by 2026. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said that the new bus fleet will be added in phases. So far, only 40 electric buses are operating in Dubai.
There are also plans to use hydrogen-powered vehicles. Charging infrastructure has been prepared at five depots, including Al Quoz, Al Ruwais, Lehbab, Business Bay and Jebel Ali, to introduce the new buses. A total of 32 high-power charger points with a capacity of 360 kilowatts have been installed at the depots.
A new electric bus, called the ‘F-13’, has already been introduced on this route. It can travel about 370 kilometers on a single charge and is powered by a 470 kilowatt-hour battery. Authorities said that special emphasis has been placed on passenger comfort and air conditioning.
