4 killed in lightning strike in Patuakhali

A lightning strike in Patuakhali has killed 4 people, including a woman and a farmer. Three people died in Kalapara upazila and one in Rangabali upazila on Wednesday (April 29), confirmed the executive officers of the respective upazilas. The deceased are Zahir Uddin (28), Setara Begum (55), Khalek Hawlader (55) and Sourav Majumder (22). Locals said that they died because they were outside their homes due to lack of awareness during the rain and lightning.
Kalapara Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Maruf Billah said that a list of 23 people, including farmers, affected by lightning on Tuesday and Wednesday has been received and a total of 29 cows have been confirmed to have died. A decision will be taken to help the affected farmers after talking to higher authorities in this regard. Upazila Executive Officer Kausar Hamid said that the houses of those affected by lightning were questioned.
