Oil price manipulation, three companies in Tangail fined Tk 70,000

The National Consumer Rights Protection Department has fined three companies a total of Tk 70,000 in Madhupur, Tangail for selling fuel and edible oil at prices higher than the prescribed price and stocking illegal packaging. Assistant Director of the Consumer Protection Department Asaduzzaman Romel led the day-long campaign on Thursday (April 23). Various areas including Madhupur market were kept under surveillance.
Assistant Director Asaduzzaman Romel said that Chan Mia Enterprise of Madhupur was fined Tk 10,000 for keeping diesel and petrol prices high, Samrat Enterprise was fined Tk 10,000 for charging excessive prices for soybean oil, and Manik Store was fined Tk 50,000 for stocking illegal packaging.
He also said that market surveillance has been strengthened to protect the interests of consumers. Strict action will be taken if prices are higher than the prescribed price or if any irregularities are committed. Such campaigns will continue regularly. Tangail District National Security Intelligence Agency (NSI) Assistant Director Rafi Rahman and district police members were present at the time.
