US Navy Secretary Fired
A major reshuffle has taken place in the US Navy, which is at war with Iran. US Navy Secretary John Phelan has been fired by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The Wall Street Journal reported this news, citing authorities.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed the matter in a post on social media on Wednesday (April 22). However, no clear reason was given for his removal. John Phelan will be replaced by US Navy Undersecretary Hang Kao.
John Phelan’s dismissal has caused surprise in military circles. Several high-ranking officials in the US military have been removed in recent months. John Phelan is the latest of them. Phelan, who will take office in March 2025, is Donald Trump’s nominee. Although he has no previous military experience, he was a major donor to Trump’s election campaign.
