Passenger bus overturns in Mymensingh
A passenger bus overturned after losing control on the side of the highway in Nandail, Mymensingh. At least 15 passengers, including the driver, were injured in the incident. The accident occurred at around 10:15 am today, Wednesday (April 22), at a place called Kawargati, adjacent to Merenga Bazar on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway.
According to local sources, a passenger bus of ‘MK Super Transport’ was heading from Mymensingh towards Kishoreganj. On the way, in the Kawargati area, the bus lost control while trying to avoid a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction towards Nandail intersection at a reckless speed. At that time, the bus hit an electricity pole next to the highway and overturned next to a paddy field.
The front part of the bus and the electricity pole were twisted in the accident. Bus driver Badshah Mia (35), Abul Kalam (45), son of Taher Ali of Royalbari Amtola village in Kendua upazila, Hridoy Mia (25), son of Tara Mia of Kendua, and Sumon Mia, son of the deceased Abdul Qaddus of Gaytal area of Kishoreganj, were among 10 other passengers injured.
Locals quickly reached the spot and rescued the injured and sent them to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital and Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. However, the condition of bus driver Badshah Mia is critical. Eyewitnesses said that the accident mainly occurred due to the reckless speed of the CNG-powered auto-rickshaw. Immediately after the accident, the auto-rickshaw driver quickly fled the scene with his car. On receiving the information, Nandail Highway Police Station went to the spot.
In this regard, Nandail Highway Police Station OC Jiban Kumar Roy confirmed the incident and said that four seriously injured in the accident are undergoing treatment in hospitals. One of them has been admitted to Mymensingh District Sadar Hospital and three to Kishoreganj District Sadar Hospital. The rest have received primary treatment. The police are investigating the matter and further legal action is being taken.
