Child dies after drowning in stored diesel

Ashikur Rahman Babu Pramanik, a truck owner, had stored 50 liters of diesel in a half-cut drum at his house in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha. His son drowned in that diesel. The child, Araf Pramanik (3), who was undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, died early this Wednesday (April 22).
According to local sources, Ashikur Rahman Babu is a truck owner from Palanpara village in Dhaparhat union of the upazila. He had stored 50 liters of diesel for his vehicle in a half-cut drum. Meanwhile, Araf Pramanik was playing on the veranda of his house around noon yesterday, Tuesday. At one point, the child fell into the diesel from a plastic cut drum kept on the veranda. After some time, the child was rescued and taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Araf Pramanik died early this morning while undergoing treatment there.
In this regard, Dhapirhat Union Parishad (UP) member Mehedi Hasan Ekramul said, “A child named Araf Pramanik, who was injured after drowning in diesel, has died. A heartbreaking scene unfolded when the child’s body reached his village home this morning.” Swapan Kumar Sarkar, in-charge of Dhapirhat Police Investigation Center, said, “I have heard from people about the death of a child after drowning in diesel. Such incidents are very painful.”
