Foreign Minister reiterates request to Iran

In a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman reiterated his request for the safe passage of Bangladeshi flagged ship ‘Banglar Joyyatra’. In the meeting held on Sunday (April 19) night, the Foreign Minister expressed special gratitude to Iran for including Bangladeshi ships in the list of six countries that have allowed Bangladeshi ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister said that despite the current situation in the region, necessary instructions have been given to the relevant authorities in this regard. A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry said that both leaders will maintain regular communication in this regard.
In the meeting, the representatives of the two countries exchanged views on the current situation in the Gulf region and various issues of mutual interest. Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman reiterated Bangladesh’s balanced position in resolving the ongoing crisis and called on all parties to exercise restraint.
He stressed that any differences should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister praised Bangladesh’s constructive steps and invited the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister to visit Tehran at a convenient time. Earlier, in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Dhaka Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi on April 5, the Foreign Minister sought cooperation in the safe passage of the ‘Banglar Jayyatra’ and another crude oil tanker.
