Former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury detained, to be produced in court today

The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) has detained former Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. She was detained from a house on 8/A Road in Dhanmondi in the capital at around 4:30 am today, Tuesday (April 7). She was later taken to the DB office on Minto Road and is being interrogated.
DB Additional Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam confirmed the detention and said that she is currently in DB custody. In addition to the murder case of goldsmith Muslim Uddin in Rangpur, there are several cases against her in Uttara and Banani police stations in the capital. She may be arrested in any of these cases.
He also said that Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury will be produced in a Dhaka court around noon today. However, no decision has been taken yet on whether to seek remand for questioning. Earlier, immediately after the arrest, there was no official information about the case or reason for his arrest, but later information about the various cases against him was revealed by DB sources. It is worth noting that Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was elected Speaker for the first time on April 30, 2013 and later served as Speaker for a long time. She was re-elected Speaker after the last election on January 7. She was a member of parliament from Rangpur-6 constituency. Later, she resigned 27 days after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
