Human chain in Satkhira to protest attack on journalist Jinnah
Local journalists have held a human chain and protest program in protest of the attack on a journalist at the Satkhira Sadar Sub-Registry Office.
This human chain was organized by the Satkhira Press Club at Shaheed S. M. Alauddin Square in New Market of the city on Sunday afternoon (April 5). After watching the CCTV footage of the human chain, a 48-hour ultimatum was given to the attackers to be arrested and the OC of Sadar Police Station to be withdrawn.
The speakers at the human chain, held under the chairmanship of Satkhira Press Club President Abul Kashem and moderated by Joint General Secretary M. Belal Hossain, expressed strong anger that instead of arresting those involved in the barbaric attack on journalist S. M. Zulfikar Ali Jinnah, a case has been filed against the victim.
Manabkantha district representative Mehedi Ali Sujoy, who was not present at the spot, has also been implicated in this case, which is unfair and motivated. They also said that an influential syndicate has been holding ordinary people hostage at the Satkhira Sadar Sub-Registry Office for a long time. Whenever they go outside the syndicate for services, they are harassed and attacked.
Senior journalist Kalyan Banerjee, former president of the Press Club Momtaz Ahmed Bapi, general secretary Asaduzzaman Asad, NTV’s S.M. Zulfikar Ali Jinnah, Kalbela and Star News’ Gazi Farhad, organizing secretary of Satkhira Journalists’ Center Md. Hossain Ali and local journalist leaders spoke at the human chain.
The speakers said that such anarchy cannot continue in a government office. The attackers must be arrested immediately and the false cases withdrawn. At this time, they warned that if their demands were not implemented within the next 48 hours, a bigger movement would be organized.
Incidentally, on March 30, journalist Jinnah was attacked while he was in the courtroom while registering land at the Sadar Sub-Registry Office.
It was alleged that the attack was carried out because a syndicate from the office was active outside. A case was also filed in this incident. However, due to political pressure, the police instead of taking action against the attackers filed a counter-case against several people, including the journalist. This spread anger among the journalists.
