Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said that the nationwide measles vaccination program will start from May 3. He said this at a measles vaccination program at the Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex this Sunday (April 5) morning. The health minister said that the measles vaccination program will start in Dhaka, Mymensingh and Barisal City Corporations from April 12. And from May 3, vaccination will be given simultaneously in the rest of the country.
He said that measles has come like lightning because the previous government did not provide vaccination. In the first phase, vaccination is being given in 30 high-risk areas. The minister also said that the current outbreak of measles in the country cannot be taken lightly. Measles has now reached a stage that is no less worrying than the corona pandemic.
According to health department sources, this vaccination program has been taken on an emergency basis due to the rapid increase in measles infection among children. The government is planning to vaccinate all the target children within the stipulated time frame.
