Measles vaccination begins in 3 upazilas of Chapainawabganj
An emergency vaccination program has been launched in Chapainawabganj to control measles. This program was launched simultaneously at various vaccination centers in the district from 9 am today, Sunday (April 5). Under this program, which is being run under the supervision of the District Health Department, children aged six months to 59 months are being vaccinated against measles in the first phase in Sadar, Shibganj and Bholahat upazilas. This program is being implemented as a special initiative of the Health Department.
According to sources in the Health Department, a target of including more than 1.2 million children across the country under this program has been set. As part of this, 45,000 doses of vaccine have been stocked in Chapainawabganj district so far and a target of 3,60,870 children against measles has been set, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Bazlur Rashid told reporters at a meeting on measles at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on April 2.
However, this morning, the Civil Surgeon’s Office said that 1,67,287 children have been vaccinated in the district. Of these, 73,077 are in Shibganj Upazila, 65,318 in Sadar Upazila, 16,208 in Sadar Municipality and 12,684 in Bholahat Upazila.
Meanwhile, health officials said that children suffering from fever or who are sick are not being vaccinated for the time being. In addition, children infected with measles or suspected of having measles are being given vitamin ‘A’ capsules. The health department has requested the guardians to ensure that their children are vaccinated by taking them to the nearest vaccination center within the stipulated time. According to experts, if the vaccination program is completed successfully on time, it will be possible to quickly control the measles infection.
Meanwhile, 28 more patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to the District Sadar Hospital in the last 24 hours. At the same time, 20 people have been discharged. Currently, 60 people are admitted to the hospital. With this, the number of infected people in the district has increased to 392. Five children have died of measles symptoms in this hospital. The deceased are the 2-year-old daughter of Md. Naimur Haque of Shahjahanpur Hakimpur village in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila of Mosar. Masuda, Maria and Saifa of the municipal area, Imam Mahmud of Ranihati area in Shibganj upazila and Tanima of Paharpur village in Nachal upazila.
