Illegal gas connection at BNP leader’s house, fined Tk 1 lakh
A BNP leader and his brother have been fined Tk 1 lakh for illegally connecting and using gas at their house in Savar.
Today, Monday (March 16), a raid was conducted at the house of Golam Mostafa, a resident of Kalma area of Sadar Union, based on specific allegations. The raid was led by Executive Magistrate Milton Roy of the Energy and Mineral Resources Department. The accused Golam Mostafa is the General Secretary of Savar Thana BNP and former Chairman of the Union Parishad (UP).
The Energy and Mineral Resources Department authorities said that Golam Mostafa and his brother Arshad Ali had been illegally using gas in their house and factory for a long time without following the law. Earlier, raids were conducted at their house several times and the illegal connection was disconnected. However, they were again illegally connecting and using gas.
During the raid, an illegal riser hidden in a concrete water tank was found inside Arshad Ali’s house. Later, the riser was seized and the illegal connection was disconnected. During the operation, Arshad Ali was absconding and the executive magistrate fined his wife Tk 1 lakh and sentenced her to 7 days of simple imprisonment in default. Savar Thana BNP General Secretary and former UP Chairman Golam Mostafa told us on mobile, “I am currently abroad for Umrah and cannot provide details. However, I have heard that my brother has been fined Tk 1 lakh. I have no involvement in these matters.”
