According to new information from US intelligence agencies, Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was hesitant about his son Mojtaba Khamenei succeeding him as the supreme leader. Multiple sources have told the BBC’s US partner CBS News about this information.
According to the report, Khamenei believed that his son Mojtaba Khamenei was not qualified enough to lead. It was believed that Mojtaba Khamenei was too intelligent and unfit for leadership. The sources also said that the leader, who was killed in an Israeli attack, was also aware of some of his son’s personal problems.
CBS News reported that this intelligence has already been shared with US President Donald Trump and a small group of his close associates. Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, was elected Iran’s new supreme leader last week.
