Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken various steps to ensure smooth travel of people returning home. The organization said that mobile courts will be operated at the field level to prevent excessive fare collection and harassment of passengers during the Eid journey. DMP Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar gave this information at a briefing organized at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road in the capital on Sunday (March 15).
He said that a sufficient number of police personnel have already been deployed to make the Eid journey comfortable. Security has been increased at important places including four bus terminals in the capital. In addition, the bus terminals will be under surveillance of detective police.
The DMP Acting Commissioner said that mobile courts will be operated to prevent various irregularities centered around the Eid journey. This activity will be strengthened to stop buses that are not allowed to ply, prevent excessive fare collection and prevent harassment of passengers. Necessary instructions have been given to public transport owners and workers in this regard.
He also said that special measures have been taken for the security of the city as the capital is largely empty during the Eid holidays. Patrols and check posts will be increased on important roads and areas. There will also be special police surveillance in residential areas.
Md. Sarwar also gave some precautionary advice to the city residents in the briefing. He said that before leaving the house, doors and windows should be properly closed, adequate lighting should be arranged inside the house and important documents should be stored in a safe place.
He also said that pedestrians and passengers have been requested to keep cash with them while traveling and to be careful on the road. The police are working to strengthen overall security so that the joy of Eid of the city residents is not disturbed in any way.
