Pedestrian killed in truck accident in Bhola, road blockade protests
A pedestrian named Sirajul Islam Chowdhury (65) was killed after being hit by a brick-laden truck on the Bhola-Char Fashion regional highway in Bhola Sadar upazila. Locals blocked the road and protested over the incident. However, although the truck was seized, the killer driver escaped. The accident occurred at around 8 pm on Tuesday (March 10) in the area adjacent to Taltoli Bazar in Alinagar Union of the upazila.
Sirajul Islam is the son of Abdar Ali Mal of Ward No. 7 of Alinagar Union and is a farmer by profession.
The deceased’s nephew Nazrul Islam and locals said that Sirajul was returning home from Taltoli Bazar after crossing the road after the market. At that time, a brick-laden truck coming from Ghungarhat area towards Bhola Sadar hit him, killing him on the spot.
The aggrieved locals seized the truck, blocked the road and protested for about half an hour. This brought traffic to a standstill on this important road in Bhola. After receiving the information, the police went to the spot and normalized traffic. In addition, the locals claimed that accidents are happening regularly in the area and there is loss of life. They also demanded the installation of speed bumps in the area to prevent these accidents. Confirming the matter, Bhola Sadar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Md. Gofran said, “After the locals called 999, we came to the spot and normalized traffic.” The family of the deceased in this incident has said that they will not file a case. The situation is currently normal.
