The US has announced the suspension of all visa appointments for Pakistan, including at the US Embassy in Islamabad and consulates in Karachi and Lahore. The emergency measure was taken due to the deteriorating security situation in the country.
The US embassy said the suspension will be in effect until Friday (March 6). Recently, news of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has sparked widespread protests in Pakistan. In particular, at least 24 people were killed in security forces’ firing when protesters tried to storm the Karachi consulate.
In the context of this unstable situation, the US administration has decided to temporarily suspend all types of visa services to ensure the safety of staff.
