BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s wife Zubaida Rahman has said that if BNP comes to power, free education will be expanded and free education for girls up to postgraduate level will be ensured. Stating that the development of the country is incomplete without the participation of women, she said that 51 percent of the country’s population is women. Their active participation is essential in building the country.
She said these things at a discussion and tea-cycle event on women, education, health and services at the Gulshan Society Lake Park in the capital on Sunday (February 8). The discussion meeting was organized by women from Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Health and Health Department and Niketan. Zubaida Rahman, who announced various plans to support women if BNP is elected, said, “We will establish a women’s support cell. Assistance will be provided to women entrepreneurs in financial and skill development. Employment of women in the informal economic sector will be increased. These problems can be solved only through well-planned political initiatives.”
Jobida Rahman said, I am thinking of those pregnant mothers and sisters in Bangladesh who die prematurely due to lack of medical care during childbirth. Our plan includes safe delivery facilities in every Upazila Health Complex. We have to take care of complete healthcare for mothers and children. Today I am thinking of that neglected girl child, who lives in fear and anxiety every day, thinking that she will be a victim of child marriage. When will her life’s dream be shattered? We want to say for sure, free education will be expanded, education up to postgraduate level will be ensured for girls. No more girl child will be sad, when will all her dreams be shattered. Today, I am thinking of that working woman and that college and university student, who is constantly subjected to uncomfortable injustice. Those who cannot travel comfortably, thousands of garment workers, sisters who are insecure enough to walk in the dark of night. They also want maternity leave. We want to ensure their 6 months of paid maternity leave. Dr. Zubaydah further said, “We want to ensure safety at work, safe housing, transportation and day care centers. Every mother can work safely at her workplace. Today I think of the old woman who was tied to the gate of the old age home by her family. We want to inform that mother that the Parental Maintenance Act will be implemented effectively.”
