Miscreants set fire to Hasnat Abdullah’s banner
The election campaign banner of Jamaat-4 Debidwar parliamentary constituency candidate and NCP chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah was set on fire. The incident took place in the Khair area of the upazila on Monday (February 2) night. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Debidwar Police Station Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter. Meanwhile, tension arose in the area when a video of the burning of the banner went viral on social media. Police visited the scene at night after receiving the news.
Police and locals said that miscreants set fire to some of Hasnat Abdullah’s election Shaplakali symbol banners hung on the road adjacent to Gangpar Bridge on the South Khair-Buripar road in Rasulpur Union of Debidwar upazila of Comilla and fled. Apart from this, miscreants set fire to Hasnat Abdullah’s banners at several other places at the same time. Tension prevails in the area over the matter. Debidwar Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Rakibul Islam said, after the incident, members of various law enforcement agencies including the police and the army have been informed. An investigation is underway to find out who committed this incident. Legal action will be taken against those involved. In this context, Upazila NCP Joint Coordinator Shamim Kausar said, miscreants have burnt several of our election banners in the dark of night. We are concerned about the environment for a fair election in this incident. We demand legal action against those involved in this incident. Debidwar Police Station OC Moniruzzaman told us, Hasnat Abdullah’s election banner was set on fire in the Khaiyar area. After receiving information, police were sent to the spot. The matter is being investigated. The culprits will be identified and necessary legal action will be taken.
