15 injured in clash between supporters of Mamun-Nur in Patuakhali-3
At least 15 people were injured in a clash between supporters of an independent candidate and a BNP alliance candidate in Patuakhali-3 constituency. Three of them have been admitted to Galachipa Upazila Hospital. The situation in the area is tense after a clash in front of Chatra Government Primary School No. 3 in Dakua Union of Galachipa Upazila around 11 pm on Saturday (January 31).
Police and locals said that two separate processions of supporters of independent candidate Hasan Mamun and supporters of BNP alliance candidate and President of the People’s Rights Council Nurul Haque Nur faced each other in front of Chatra Government Primary School in Ward No. 3 of Dakua Union of Galachipa Upazila of Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa-Dashmina) constituency. At this time, the clash started at one stage of the verbal exchange between the two parties. At least 15 people including Maruf, Ajit, Wajib, Oliul Islam Titu, Bayezid from both sides were injured.
Among the injured, Ghora Markar supporters Maruf Gazi (24), Wajib Hawlader (24) and Zayed have been admitted to the Upazila Hospital. The rest received primary treatment. Admitting the truth of the incident, Galachipa Police Station OC Md. Md. Zillur Rahman told us that a dispute arose between the two parties. The situation was brought under control after the police arrived. Despite repeated calls to the two candidates, it was not possible to get a statement on the matter.
