President Donald Trump said Iran is in serious talks with the US. “I hope that through negotiations, Iran will agree to give up its nuclear weapons,” he said while speaking to reporters on the president’s official plane, Air Force One, on Sunday (February 1).
According to the Times of Israel, a reporter asked him what his latest thoughts were on Iran. Trump initially declined to comment, but later said, “We’ve sent a lot of military equipment to the Middle East. I hope they’ll negotiate something that’s acceptable to us.” He was also asked about comments by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman. Prince Khalid said at a meeting in the US last Friday, “If Trump doesn’t attack Iran right now, as he’s threatened, the Iranian regime will become stronger.”
In response to this question, Trump said, “Many think so. Many don’t think so.” Trump said Iran is in serious talks. “Iran can make a satisfactory deal that will prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons. They should do it. But I don’t know if they will. They are negotiating with us, negotiating seriously,” he said.
