Student missing after bathing in Padma River in Munshiganj
A student of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) has gone missing after bathing in the Padma River at Mawa Point in Munshiganj. The missing student, Abu Naeem, was a second-year student of the institution’s Marine Engineering Department. The incident took place near pillar number 4 of the bridge on Saturday (January 31) afternoon.
Deputy Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said that a group of 18 students of MIST had gone on a boat trip on the Padma Bridge that day. When the boat reached pillar number 4 of the bridge at around 3:30 pm, Naeem and his three friends went down into the river to bathe.
At that time, when they were in danger due to strong currents, the two students somehow managed to swim to the boat, but Naeem drowned instantly. The missing student’s home is in Natore district. Two rescue diving teams immediately reached the spot after receiving the news of the accident. The rescue operation of the fire service is continuing till the last reports.
