Woman and child killed in accident on Dhaka-Chittagong highway
A woman and her five-year-old child were killed after a bus hit them on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Chandina, Comilla. The identities of the deceased were not immediately known. The accident occurred at around 8:30 am on Saturday (January 31) on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Elliotganj Muradnagar road on the border of Daudkandi and Chandina upazilas.
According to local and police sources, the unidentified woman got off a local bus named ‘Papiya Service’ from Comilla with her five-year-old child in her arms. At that time, a bus named ‘Nilachal’ coming from behind ran over both of them. Later, the bus collided with a mini covered van standing on the side of the road. The rear part of the covered van was twisted and twisted.
The woman died on the spot. The child was first taken to a local hospital in serious injuries. Later, when his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Gouripur Health Complex in Daudkandi Upazila, where the doctor on duty declared the child dead. Elliotganj Highway Police Station OC Ruhul Amin said that the bus involved in the accident and the damaged covered van have been recovered and taken to the police station. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased. Legal action is being taken in this incident.
