5 lives lost on the morning road
Five people were killed when a sand-laden dump truck and a vegetable van collided in Mahadevpur, Naogaon. Another person was injured. The accident occurred at around 4:30 am today (January 31) at Patkathi Shibpur intersection in Enayetpur union of the upazila. The deceased were Sanchu Urao (48), Mongra Urao (48), Bipul Pahan (22) son of Jutua Pahan, Biren (50) son of Khoka Pahan, Ujjwal Pahan (24) son of the deceased Naren Pahan and Biplob (22) son of Anil Pahan. The injured Samanta (30) is the son of Ramesh of the same village.
According to police and local sources, some local farmers and traders were going to Mahadevpur market in two battery-operated charger vans carrying raw turmeric and brinjal this morning. On the way, when the jute cutting machine reached Shibpur area, a sand-laden dump truck heading to Nazipur hit the two vans. Two of them died on the spot.
Later, locals rescued the remaining four people in the van in critical condition and took them to Mahadevpur Upazila Health Complex, where three more died. A van driver named Samanta was injured in the incident. Mahadevpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kashem confirmed the matter. Mahadevpur Police Station said that the driver of the deadly truck is absconding since the accident. The truck has been seized. Further legal action is under process in this regard.
