Baltic dry index slides on Capesize weakness despite mixed segment performance

he Baltic dry index fell by 1.75% (30 points) d-o-d to 1,688 on 9 Jan’26. It fell mainly due to Capesize weakness, with softer iron ore and coal demand, lower post-holiday activity, and higher vessel availability weighing on rates, while modest Panamax gains were insufficient to offset losses.
