Baltic dry index slips on weak Capesize and Supramax demand
The Baltic dry index declined by 1.65% to 1,851 on 5 Jan’26 against 2 Jan. It declined due to weaker Capesize and Supramax performances, as softer iron ore, coal, and minor bulk cargo demand, combined with adequate vessel supply and limited post-holiday activity, weighed on freight rates.

- Capesize: BCI dropped 1.9% (59 points) to 3,049.
- Panamax: BPI increased by 0.9% (11 points) to 1,293.
- Supramax: BSI fell by 3.07% (33 points) to 1,043.
