Students of Tejgaon College are protesting by blocking roads in the capital’s Farmgate area. As a result, severe traffic jams have been created at Farmgate intersection, Khamarbari, Bijoy Sarani and nearby roads. The students took to the streets at around 9:45 am today, Sunday (January 4).
Eyewitnesses said that several hundred students were standing on the surrounding roads including Farmgate intersection and shouting various slogans. Due to them, traffic in the area was completely stopped. As a result, ordinary passengers including office-goers suffered extreme hardship.
It is learned that on the night of December 6 last year, a clash broke out between two parties in the hostel of Tejgaon College. In this, Sakibul Hasan Rana (18), a second-year student of the college, was seriously injured. He died while undergoing treatment on December 10, four days after being injured.
Since this incident, Sakibul Hasan Rana’s classmates have been protesting demanding justice for the culprits. Students of Tejgaon College have blocked the road several times before with the same demand. Today, they are still blocking the road in the Farmgate area demanding justice. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials are reportedly present at the scene to bring the situation under control.
