Tasnim Zara’s nomination cancelled
The Election Commission has announced the cancellation of the nomination of independent candidate Dr. Tasnim Zara for Dhaka-9 constituency. This was announced by the Returning Officer and Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Rezaul Karim at around 11:30 am today (January 3).
It is learnt that Tasnim Zara’s nomination has been cancelled due to irregularities in the verification of voter information. The verification showed that out of the 10 voters given by the proposers and supporters, only 8 are voters of Dhaka-9 constituency. Since the remaining 2 are not voters of that constituency, it has been decided to cancel her nomination as per the election rules.
Tasnim Zara said that she will immediately respond and appeal to the Election Commission (EC). She said that the nomination was declared cancelled due to the problem with the signatures of the two, “One knew that he was a voter of Dhaka-9 constituency. But there was no way to know whether he was a voter of this constituency.”
Tasneem Zara also said, “Another person whose name has been excluded has a copy of her national identity card, which shows that she is a voter of Dhaka-9 constituency. But the Election Commission says that she is not a voter of this constituency.” Stating that this happened because the two signatories were not aware of this, Tasneem Zara said, “They knew that they were voters of Dhaka-9 constituency. They signed accordingly. And the Election Commission also had no way of knowing the constituency of the voters.”
Tasneem Zara was the senior joint member secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP). After resigning from the NCP on December 27, in a Facebook post, she announced that she would contest the elections as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9 constituency.
