The incident surrounding AB Party General Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad in Rishal is a matter of great concern, said Dr. Tasnim Zara, Senior Joint Member Secretary of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP). She expressed this concern in a post on her verified Facebook page yesterday, Sunday (December 7).
Tasnim Zara said, Barrister Fuad’s political ideology may not be like mine or yours. You may have thousands of questions or objections about his party’s policies. But when a candidate goes to his own area, chanting slogans like ‘I will skin him’ or ‘I will beat him with shoes’ around him cannot be a healthy democratic culture.
The NCP leader also said, there will be opposition in politics, there will be arguments, you will vote for him whether you want or not. But physically harassing someone or attacking him with such indecent language is not acceptable behavior. Finally, Dr. Zara said that politics should be based on logic, not on force. It is worth noting that AB Party General Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad was shot while attending the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of Mirganj Bridge in his constituency in Babuganj, Barisal yesterday (December 7). He blamed local BNP leaders and activists for the incident.
While attending the foundation stone laying ceremony yesterday morning, Fuad alleged that attempts were being made to extort money and rig the bids for the construction of the bridge. In an interview given to several television channels, the AB Party leader said, “We passed this bridge project with great difficulty. If extortion and bid rigging occur here now, the bridge will not be built again.”
Although he did not mention the name of any party in his speech, the leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates present there immediately erupted in anger. At that time, Fuad was threatened with various threats to withdraw his statement. However, Upazila Chhatra Dal convener Atiq Al Amin denied the allegations and said that the incident happened because of the angry crowd and that Fuad would be declared undesirable in Babuganj if he did not apologize for the controversial comments.
