“Torture, oppression, imprisonment could not break Begum Zia” — Shamsul Alam at prayer mahfil in Chittagong
Yesterday, Monday (December 1, 2025), a prayer mahfil was held at West Baklia Ward No. 17 under Baklia Police Station in Chittagong-9 constituency to pray for the health and longevity of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. A large number of leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal, including various organiza- tions, were present in this program organized by local leaders and activists.
Alhaj Md. Shamsul Alam, a member of the BNP Central Executive Committee, was present as the chief guest at the prayer mahfil. He said, “Torture, oppression, imprisonment—nothing could break Begum Zia. She has fought for democracy all her life. Her leadership means justice, courage and an unwavering commitment to protect the rights of the people.”
He also said that Begum Khaleda Zia’s role in restoring the democratic values of the country is historic. Despite various adversities, she is a symbol of the hopes and aspirations of the countrymen. Shamsul Alam said, “The people of this country wish her well-being, because she is a reflection of patriotism, sacrifice and courage.”
A.K. Khan, a member of the city BNP convening committee, was present as a special guest at the event. He said that Begum Zia’s absence has created a big void in the current political environment. The countrymen are waiting for her speedy recovery.
Also present at the prayer mahfil were former Ward No. 17 BNP president Mohammad Sekandar, convener Haji Mohammad Imran, member secretary Mohiuddin Mizan, senior joint convener Abdul Quader, “B” Unit BNP president Sheikh Alauddin, ward Sechchhasebak Dal president M. H. Chowdhury Bablu, member secretary Mohammad Faruk and numerous leaders and activists of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal.
The speakers said that Begum Zia is not just a political figure—she is an inspiration to the democracy-loving people of Bangladesh. She has overcome many obstacles in her long political journey. They also demanded that she be provided with better medical facilities. At the end of the prayer mahfil, special prayers were offered for Begum Khaleda Zia’s speedy recovery, good health and long life.
