Hundreds of workers fall ill again due to panic, factory closed
After the death of several workers at the Creative Collection Limited (CCL) garment factory in Tongi, more than a hundred workers have fallen ill again due to panic. Yesterday, Saturday (November 29), more than fifty workers fell ill in the factory due to the same reason. The injured have been taken to various hospitals including the Tongi Government Hospital. The authorities have declared a holiday at the factory due to panic.
As of 10 am today, Sunday (November 30), 19 sick workers have come to Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital for treatment. Tongi Hospital sources said that 50 workers of Hamim Group have come for treatment in the last 24 hours. In addition, numerous workers are undergoing treatment in various hospitals including Gazipur, Tongi and Dhaka. The injured workers at Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital said that two workers suddenly fainted a few days ago and yesterday. Many are fainting due to panic and excitement due to this news.
Dr. Israt Jahan, an emergency department doctor at Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, told us that sick workers of Hamim Group are coming to the hospital due to tension. The authorities should arrange for counseling of the workers through a psychiatrist at the factory. On November 24, Atiqul Islam (30), an employee of Creative Collection Limited, a company of Hamim Group, suddenly fainted and died. Yesterday, another worker died. There is no case or complaint in the police station in this incident. Tongi West Police Station OC Mohammad Harun Or Rashid told us that no one has filed a complaint with the police station regarding the worker’s death. They did not even bring the body. Yesterday morning, another worker died of a stroke. Then yesterday, more than fifty workers fell ill due to panic. Today, panic spread again around 9 am and more than a hundred workers fell ill. In this situation, the authorities declared the factory closed. In this regard, Mizanur Rahman, the chief engineer in charge of Hamim Group, said that workers are falling ill due to panic, so a two-day holiday has been declared at the factory.
